Elastomers and rubbers have different polarity, surface properties, and polymer structures. In the past, this has led to the difficulty in bonding them with adhesives. Cyanoacrylates have provided the best solution until now, but they have little resistance to impact and easily become brittle. Techsil, an adhesives technology company based in the United Kingdom, has announced that its new solvent-free UV-adhesive will solve the issue. The company said, its product Vitralit VBB-2N LV, developed specifically for bonding elastomeric materials and curing quickly under UV or visible light, has low viscosity and high bond strength. The new adhesive is suitable for bonding large areas and is effective when gap size is very small. After curing, the adhesive remains flexible with good environmental stability. Techsil says that its new product is suitable for use on most elastomers. Vitralit VBB-2N LV will be well-suited to medical applications, meeting the USP Class IV requirements. Moreover, it can withstand autoclaving, gamma irradiation and EtO sterilization processes.
